Not sure how to connect vm to wifi

Post by BobBobby »

I have downloaded Macos Big Sur and got everything set up except I can't access the internet. I've tried a bunch of things but nothing has worked, the wifi button is grayed out and doesn't list any list any wifi connections. I am using NAT for my network settings. Is it not possible to use the internet if you don't have a wired connection?? please help :(

The virtual machine runs on simulated hardware - it doesn't matter what physical hardware you have (within reason).

The VM simulates a wired Ethernet connection, it has no WiFi. So just set aside your preconceptions and let the VM do what it wants to do.

In the VM network settings you need to choose between NAT and Bridged. NAT is good for typical Internet use, so just use that if you can. That way you don't care at all what kind of network connection that other PC (the host) has: whatever it is, the VM can use it as a gateway.

Start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip it, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Also, please right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show in Explorer/Finder/File Manager. Zip the VM's .vbox file (not the .vbox-prev file), and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab. (Configure your host OS to show all extensions if the folder that opens does not show a .vbox file.)

Thanks for the info. Regrettably we can't help. Windows host OS running a Mac guest is only allowed if the physical computer is real Mac hardware.
