Big Sur Guest on Windows host - SMB cause a kernel panic

Post by Hatan »

On the new Big sur (release version, not Beta) whenever I try to connect to my Windows host shared folder using SMB://10.0.2.2, the VM crashes with a kernel panic. I can actually connect to the folder, I can see the content but any file transfer will crash immediately (or within a few seconds maximum).

I have tried literally 15 different VM configuration:

- Using NAT or Internal network (this way I use the normal network sharing, but it still use SMB under the hood which causes the same issue)
- Using version MAC OS X or MacOS 10.13 High Sierra
- Using different virtual disk type VDI, VHD, VMDK, tried dynamic and fixed
- Tried using 2 different BIG Sur iso
- Even tried on 2 different computers

Anyone else is facing the same issue?

Or is there any other way to transfer file? (Guess addition cannot be installed it seems on Big sur since different people have the same issue)

Thanks

Please provide a VM log file. Make sure the VM is fully shut down, then right click it in the manager UI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

a macOS VM is only supported on genuine Apple hardware. Unless you are running windows on a Mac then we cannot help you.
