Critical Error While Installing Sun Solaris 8 on VM

Post by Sahan_D »

I Have Tried to Setup Sun Solaris 8 (32 bit) using an .iso file on the VM. I have Configfured it "Oracle Solaris 10 5/09 and Earlier 32 bit"
And After Continuing the rpocess to Boot the System the VM Crashes with a Critical Error.
I have attached the whole log folder with this.
Thank You In Advance

You don't have a problem with your "Solaris Host", you have a problem with a "Solaris Guest". Moving to the appropriate forum section.
VirtualBox VM 5.1.38_Ubuntu r122592 linux.amd64 (Jul 10 2018 10:40:22) release log
It looks like you're using the Ubuntu fork version of VirtualBox, and a rather old one actually. You can either ask in their forums/channels for help, or completely remove/uninstall/delete/purge their version and install the official version from the Linux Downloads section of VirtualBox.

You can even add VirtualBox as a repository, so you could use your traditional install/upgrade/uninstall tools. The instructions are in the page linked above.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Solaris 8 still seems to install fine on VirtualBox 6.x (host platform Solaris 11.4) with network link :

Code: Select all

# ifconfig -a
lo0: flags=1000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 8232 index 1
        inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
pcn0: flags=1000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 2
        inet 192.168.0.9 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255
        ether 8:0:27:3f:e2:1e
The guest additions obviously do not seem to install any longer on Solaris 8 because over the years modifications were made that are completely "alien" to Solaris 8 (like zones and SMF etc.) The install itself reports success (but with errors obviously for SMF etc. this would require maintenance of the old "legacy" System-V rc.d scripts.
