OpenSolaris Guest Additions
OpenSolaris Guest Additions
I am unable to install OpenSolaris Guest Additions. I emulated the guest additions cd image. I then changed directory to where the VBoxSolarisAdditions.pkg file was. then I executed:
su pkgadd -d ./VBoxSolarisAdditions.pkg
and received a reply:
su: Unknown id: pkgadd
I am new to Opensolaris so it may seem as a stupid question but where did I go wrong? Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: OpenSolaris Guest Additions
su is switch user, which is why u saw that message.
Become root, and then try the pkgadd again.
i.e. $ su - root (Enter Password)
# cd <PATH_TO_PACKAGE>
# pkgadd -d ./VboxSolarisAdditions.pkg
Hope that helps.

I had similar issues trying to run the package installer from the CD image. I got it to work by copying the package to the Desktop (or other Hard Drive location), making it writable, and running pkgadd as super user:
- cd /cdrom/vboxaddtions-xxxxx
- cp VBoxSolarisAddtions.pkg ~/Desktop/
- cd ~/Desktop
- chmod +w VBoxSolarisAddtions.pkg
- su
(enter root password)
- pkgadd -d ./VBoxSolarisAdditions.pkg
Follow the prompts.
Remember to logout and login again to get the X11 (flexible screen resolution) to kick in. Also, if large resolutions are displayed in thousands of colours or less, up the video memory for the VM to something like 64 MB. You need to shut down the VM to do that.
Cheers,
Erwin

The changelog for Vbox 2.0.2 notes that Solaris guest additions for 32 and 64 bit were merged. With 2.0.2, I cannot get the Sol 10 guest screen above 1024x768, even though all worked great (1600x1200) under 2.0.0 and earlier. My xorg.conf looks very different with the 2.0.2 additions installed. I have tried modifying the resolution modes in xorg, but that doesn't work. This issue is new to 2.0.2. Does anyone else have a problem with Vbox 2.0.2 Solaris guest additions?
Re: OpenSolaris Guest Additions
I'm having the same problem with OpenSolaris guest, on a WinXP host. I've followed all of the tips and steps to get the opensolaris to go full screen but nothing seems to work. I've even reinstalled VBoxSolarisAdditions.pkg twice and still nada.
Any ideas??

Re: OpenSolaris Guest Additions
Thanks to erwinv for the instuctions - upon adding the pkg as su and restarting the VM, I got the message that mouse point integration is now supported. However, I, too, am stuck in 1024 land, even when using the VBox fullscreen switch.
