Solaris guest crashes when accessing shared folders

Post by masami_t »

I updated the VBox and extension pack on a Windows 7 (32-bit) host from 4.1.16 to 4.1.18,
and also updated the guest additions on a Solaris guest (snv_151a).
After that, the Solaris guest crashes when I try to access some files from share folder.

I can copy small files (equal or less than 32 KB = 32768 bytes), but cannot copy larger file
such as 32769 bytes. The system reboots immediately, and /var/adm/messages says:
Jul 6 00:37:11 durian ^Mpanic[cpu0]/thread=e7106040:
Jul 6 00:37:11 durian genunix: [ID 683410 kern.notice] BAD TRAP: type=e (#pf Page fault) rp=d3bc7860 addr=d56b0424
Jul 6 00:37:11 durian unix: [ID 100000 kern.notice]

:
I can copy any files from the guest to share folders.
I tried both Manual and Automatic share, but nothing changed.

Could you give the full contents of /var/adm/messages from the guest?

Thanks for the messages file, I see the panic trace in it. I noticed this is a 32-bit Solaris (snv_151) guest, could you upload VBox.log for this VM? I'll have to try to reproduce this issue locally to try to fix it.

Just curious, have you tried this on more recent Solaris 11 and get the same crash?

Please find the log file in the attachment.
I made a new file because the log file on 07/06/2012 has gone away.

My guest OS is 32-bit Solaris because the host is 32-bit Windows 7.
I guess I cannot test the latest Solaris 11 because it won't work in a 32-bit mode.
Instead, I tried this on some other Solaris guests.
OpenSolaris snv_111b and snv_134 crashed as well. I also attach log files.
On the other hand, OpenIndiana oi_151a guest did not crash; I could copy any files.

I have had similar problems using 32-bit Solaris 10 on a Red Hat 5.8 host.
