Random kernel panic when installing Oracle 11g on Solaris

Post by chris6220 »

Hi there,

I've been trying for a couple of weeks to install an Oracle 11gR2 RAC cluster on two Solaris systems hosted in VBox-4.1 under CentOS 5.7. I keep on getting random kernel panic crashes while doing so. Last time was this morning while executing /opt/grid/root.sh on node2, for no obvious reason.

My config:
VBox = VirtualBox 4.1.8_75467_rhel5, x86_64.
Host = CentOS release 5.7 (Final), Linux 2.6.18-274.17.1.el5, Intel Xeon E5520/E5620 x86_64.
Guest = Oracle Solaris 11 11/11 X86, 8GB RAM, 4GB swap, 2 CPUs.
I also tried earlier with OpenIndiana 151a with similar results.

Does anyone else here have been able to complete this Oracle 11g installation before? And do you have any idea of what might be wrong with my setup?

Attached the relevant part of /var/adm/messages in case it can help.

Thanks for your help,
Chris

Could you please upload VBox.log for this?

If possible the core (/var/crash/<guest's hostname>/*) and /etc/release output from the guest Solaris would also be useful.

How should we help? Crystal ball? Divining? If you really want help then give us data to work with. In particular when reporting a VM failure always include a copy of the VBox.log file as a zipped attachment.
