osstest working, gnome sound not

Post by lviggiani »

Hi Everybody,
I'm in trouble with sound on my Solaris 10/09 (x86_64) guest running on VirtualBox 4 (ubuntu natty amd64 host).
I've installed latest oss from http://www.opensound.com.
As soon as oss installation is complete, I run # osstest and it works flawless. If then I right-click on the sound icon on the bottom bar and I select "Open Volume Control", the mixer shows properly. The sound is also working for gnome (tested with youtube).

If I then restart Solaris guest, osstest is still working wereas ""Open Volume Control" now tells me "Sorry, no mixer elements and/or devices found". SOund is not working for gnome apps (ie. same video on youtube).

If I then run again #pkgadd -d oss-solaris-v4.2-2004-i386.pkg the mixer and audio for gnome apps is back.... until next reboot.

How can I fix this?
Thanks in advance, Luca.

You can't fix it - oss 4.2 b2004 is still broken for Solaris 10 x86:

A fix may be coming in the next oss build, and vitaly has some workarounds. Check the other threads in that Solaris oss forum.

Running ossdetect as root will temporarily restore normal oss functionality, but you have to do that after every reboot.
