Installing Open Solaris on VB 3.1.6

Post by charles.o »

Hi All

Im a newbie to the whole virtual box thing. Im trying to install Open solaris 2008.11 on vb 3.1.6. I set the VM up with 256 Mb RAM 16Gb HDD space and as a cd rom I mounted my open solaris ISO to install from. When the VM starts, it displays the menu where you can select to install open solaris or boot from local disk ect... I select to install... then after a while the screen just "hangs" on "Probing for device nodes" I left it for a while to see if it will go further, but after about 30 min, still no change. Is it a problem with the guest operating system that i'm trying to install or is it a hardware issue, or am I just doing something wrong...? I searched the forum for similar problems, but found nothing.

Thanx in advance for any help

that should not be a VBox problem ;)

My bad.... after reading the VBox manual or some other manual, cant remember, I found that open solaris needs at least 512mb RAM if I remember correctly, so it was my mistake... if all else fails, RTFM

Changed the RAM settings to 512 and it works!!!

Thanx.
