Error 15: File not found

Post by KenJackson »

I tried to install OpenSolaris 2009.06 in VirtualBox 3.0.8 on a FedoraCore 11 host.

This is what the installation screen showed (copied by hand):

Code: Select all

  Booting 'OpenSolaris 2009.06'

kernel$ /platform/i86pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix
loading '/platform/i86pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix' ...
cpu: 'GenuineIntel' family 6 model 10 step 4
[BIOS accepted mixed-mode target setting!]
   [Multiboot-kludge, loadaddr=0xbffe38, text-and-data=0x1b1ff0, bss=0x0, entry=0xc00000]
'/platform/i86pc/kernel/amd64/unix' is loaded
module$ /boot/$ISADIR/x86.microroot
loading '/boot/$ISADIR/x86.microroot' ...

Error 15: File not found

Press any key to continue...
But, alas, I had assumed that the "Automated Install Image" would boot and install. Bad thinking.
From JoeV in OpenSolaris defects:
The -ai- images are not bootable. It is only used for an Automated Install via the network.

Currently one can perform an OpenSolaris install in one of 2 ways.
LiveMedia (via CD or USB) supported for x86 systems only.
Automated Install for a network install much like Jumpstart supported for both x86 and SPARC systems.
So now I'll go get the Live CD and try again.
I just wanted to pass this along since others will no-doubt try to do the same thing.
