Hello,
I have run into the following problem while trying to update OpenSolaris 2008.11 to 2009.06 running in VirtualBox 2.2.4. The system creates a new boot environment, but when I try to boot into it, I get this message:
"cpu0: failed to upgrade microcode from version 0x0 to 0x17",
whereupon I get sent to the console login.
I found a similar bug description on a website http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase ... id=6757123 :
"Virtual machines typically do not allow a guest OS to update
the microcode. An unmodified guest OS cannot tell that it's
running on a virtual machine, therefore it diligently reported
the failure. The user of the guest OS should report such warning
to the virtual machine vendors to let them know
- The virtual machine should allow reading of the microcode
version
- That their microcode is way out of date."
Does anybody know a fix for this? Alternatively, does anybody know which package I need to exclude from the update in order not to change the microcode?
Thank you very much.
