Yes, the solution is easy: go find that missing file in your last backup.

That's the best I can do with the info provided.

I have my .vdi I zipped all up, moved the vdi to my external hard drive , unzipped and now i keep getting this error whenever I try to attach the .vbox

If the vdi file was not in the guest folder right next to the .vbox file, then the path to the drive fike is absolute in the .vbox file, and Virtualbox will look for that absolute path and not find the disk file.

My suggestion: Put everything back where it was and get the guest working again. Then follow Moving a VM to put the guest where you want it using the proper methods. If you have questions ask them before you move stuff so things don't break more.

A VDI is not the VM. Moving a bare VDI on its own is just asking for exactly the kind of trouble you got. It's like removing the bare drive from a work PC and just expecting to be able to do something useful with it when you get home.
