csmccarron, you're running 6.1.20 Virtualbox and Guest Additions, but 3D acceleration is not enabled. See Franklin's and my posts above yours.

(BTW, I deleted your other post on "Win 10 20H2 transparency not working with 3D acceleration", since that one is about a different issue, and I didn't want that conversation to be confused with the Seamless issue.)

I enabled 3D Acceleration but it did not fix the Seamless mode issue. When I click on the Start Menu in the Guest the seamless mode become full screen and stays that way until the VM is rebooted.

Everything looks ship-shape in the log as I can see. Seamless is activating too. Puzzled as to why your graphics have glitches though. We'll have to wait for a guru to stop by on this one.

I do miss having a properly functioning seamless mode. :(

Host: Ubuntu 20.04
Guest: Windows 10 Enterprise v.1909
Guest Display Mode: VBoxSVGA

Just reporting the same thing. Seamless mode doesn't really do anything different than fullscreen. I've tried with 3D in either mode. With 3D enabled, the experience is identical to fullscreen. With it disabled, the Windows 10 desktop is no longer visible, but the Windows Taskbar is still visible at the bottom of the screen. However, when clicking on the Start button, the Start menu is not displayed. If I switch back to fullscreen, I can see that the Start Menu was displayed in the Guest, but just not rendered when in seamless mode.

I've used VMWare in the past and made extensive use of their Unity mode. This is what VirtualBox is attempting to duplicate, yes? I'm expecting the Windows Taskbar to be hidden. I just want to confirm what the expectations are for this mode.

It sure would be useful if we could get this mode working correctly. I use Ubuntu as my primary software development OS but my business needs require a few applications that only run on Windows :( . If this seemless mode was working correctly, this would certainly improve my normal daily workflow. The feature would be valuable to me personally, but not quite valuable enough to justify the serious cost of VMWare,

Like others here, I'd appreciate it if there was any contact/feedback from those developing VirtualBox.

Thanks so much,

The best way to let the developers know is to post on the Bugtracker, with a vbox.log showing a full run of the VM from full shut down (not saved state), showing the problem happen, and some indication of when during the run of the VM the problem was seen.

This problem may be influenced by more modern OSs' needs vs a possible bug in Virtualbox. FWIW my Windows 7 VM with no 3D acceleration has perfectly-working Seamless.
