since VB6.1 occasionally trackpad-clicking fails

Post by maker675 »

since upgrading from 5.x to VB6.1 from time to time trackpad clicking stops working. (Trackpad navigation and keyboard presses still OK.) "From time to time" when using certain applications and "Always" when launching others.

Host OSX (MacBook Pro 15), Guest Windows 10 (latest of both), appropriate Guest additions and Extension pack installed. 3D acceleration off.

Do not see any errors in the log.

Any suggestions?

At present have to restart the Guest each time this happens. Is there a fix not involving restart?

"Latest of both" and "appropriate" will mean something different tomorrow, and may mean something different to your readers today. Exact version numbers are better and are timeless in interpretation.

Same thing can be said for:

"5.x" covers 60 different official builds, from 5.0.0 to 5.2.36 as of today, not to mentions any number of test builds that fit within "5.x". There is also a 6.1.0 and 6.1.2, with a few possible 6.1.1 test builds in between. Exact version numbers please. Care to pin that down a little?

Can you go back to "5.x", whatever that was, and see if this issue goes away? Maybe there were mouse changes, or maybe it's just a host glitch.

Thanks.

Would like to perform the test. Just waiting for a quiet moment when can figure out how to do the various uninstalls / installs. Have never downgraded before and a bit nervous might break something.

Downgrading will be simple. Just make sure all the guests are fully shut down, not save-stated. Then uninstall Virtualbox, reboot the host PC, and install the older version. Don't forget the Extension Pack, the version numbers should match. Also the Guest Additions should be downgraded too.

Computers do go bad, whatever you're un/reinstalling. A full restorable host disk image or a full clone to a different test host hard drive are good fallbacks.

Hehe well uninstall went smoothly.

Then tried to install the latest 5.x (5.2.36) and found this problem (disk image contains wrong version):

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=96566&p=468560#p468560

So then installed last October's 5.2.34 + extension pack and ran into this problem:

viewtopic.php?t=91472

That VBOXSVGA not supported by 5.x and that is the driver currently selected by my Guest Windows 10.

So looks like will now have to go back to 6.x ! :D

Guys, sorry to come back on this.

We're now up to 6.1.8 and have fiddled endlessly with setting in Windows 10 and in VB but still have the problem that the trackpad-click will stop working at "random".

Well now have found a way to make it happen immediately: play anything on Youtube. The moment a video starts (don't normally do this kind of thing in guests) trackpad clicking no longer works. In addition the mouse pointer may disappear, for a while anyway. No alternative really but to ACPI shutdown the guest.

This leads me to wonder whether the problem might have something to do with processor availability?

Anything I could try?
