When rebooting after installing the Guest Additions with Direct3D support, when I reach the log on screen and enter my password and press enter, the VM crashes and freezes with a red bar appearing at the top of the screen, after a few seconds, the VM restarts. When I turn off 3D acceleration and reach the log on screen, the same thing happens except this time I get a prompt that says the VM entered “guru meditation”.
After downgrading and installing Guest Additions 5.2, the problem is gone.

Re: Guest Additions 6.1.2 crashes on welcome screen in Windows Vista
In 6.1.2, 3D acceleration is only available for Windows 7 & later guests. Vista and earlier still need to use the old VboxVGA video card, which has a 3D-accelerated security hole big enough to run a train through.
Window 7 & later can use the newer VboxSVGA card, which still has 3D Acceleration.
To use 3D on Vista, use Virtualbox 6.0.x or earlier. 6.0.x is highly likely to be supported for some years yet.
