[RESOLVED] Missing drivers

Post by LaughingBoy »

Hi fellow VirtualBox users / admins / moderators / guest viewers,

I just managed to install an XP guest and a Vista guest on my Fedora Core 6 host, and I noticed that in each Windows guest OS, the device manager indicates that there are two devices without proper drivers installed. On XP, they are:
  • Base System Device
  • Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
On Vista, they are:
  • Base System Device
  • Ethernet Controller
Can someone point me in the right direction to fixing these issues :?:

Cheers,

LaughingBoy.

edit: Should have tried the RTFM trick. I wasn't expecting this level of documentation, and am impressed.

Whoops! Never mind - I found the "Guest Additions..." and all devices appear to be working now.

That is... with the exception of the ethernet controller under Vista.

Did I miss something there :?:

From the FAQ:
There is no networking in Windows Vista guests initially because, unfortunately, with Vista, Microsoft dropped driver support for the virtual AMD PCnet card that we are providing. See "Troubleshooting" -> "Windows guests" in the User Manual for a solution.

Cheers for that. Followed the instructions and installed the drivers from AMD's website. Appears to work just fine.
