Display Glitches on Windows 10.0.17134

Post by User999 »

I'm running Windows 10.0.17134 in Virtualbox 6.0.10 on Debian 9. I have Extension Pack 6.0.10 installed on the host and Virtualbox Guest Additions version 6.0.10r132072 installed on the guest, and I'm experiencing a few display bugs.
The installed version of the guest's display driver "Virtualbox Graphics Adapter (WDDM)" is 6.0.10.0.

Bug 1:
In the start menu, when searching, text will display over other text.

Bug 2:
In the Microsoft Account logon screen, the text fails to render.

If I resize the window so that it's small enough to make windows add a scroll bar, the text will then be drawn, but the contents can be jumbled, depending on the exact dimensions of the window.

Hi, I am experiencing the same issue with Virtualbox 6.0.10r running in OSX High Sierra and a fresh installation of Windows 10 64bit. I would also be really keen to lear the fix. My display issues are the same sort of thing as you have shown. I will post one image of my display.

I have upgraded the guest to Windows 10.0.18362 and I am still experiencing the same issue.

Is there anything else I should try before submitting a bug report?

Yes. We need to see a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run, where the problem occurs:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe problem / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.

Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

While testing something else I also experienced these display glitches. And it's even worse than glitches, some programs in the guest won't even run. They crash inside "VBoxDispD3D-x86.dll, Version: 6.0.10.32072" according to the Windows event log.
For me these problems only happen with VBoxSVGA and with 3D acceleration enabled.

I'll attach my log.

The graphics corruption issue has been resolved by the upgrade to Virtualbox 6.0.12.
However, one of my machines now displays a black screen after windows' GUI launches when "Enable 3D Acceleration" is checked. The selected graphics controller is VBoxSVGA. (It responds to ACPI shutdown commands when the screen is black.)

User999,
Without a ZIPPED VBox.log, it all sounds like hocus pocus... ;)
