You didn't copy/paste the whole thing, or something didn't go as planned in the translation...

Please try again...
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

The issue with importing a VM doing the wrong thing regarding the placement of medium information (in the global file instead of the VM config) should be fixed as of 6.0.9r131254. Simply pick up the latest test build from the Test build page.

Note that this does not repair a setup where the issue already caused misplacement (however, the misplacement should not cause trouble on the system where the import happened). We hope to find a way to automatically repair it, but it's tricky because it needs consistently updating potentially many config files.

If someone needs a quick workaround: if one clones the VM where the issue happened then the result will be an intact VM config.

socratis, not sure what I am doing wrong. I used the copy button you specified on the virtualbox error window and pasted the contents into a post. That appears to be everything. Please advise.

Klaus, Thanks for chiming in, although I am not sure what you mean. Should I update the VB manager to the newest version? I am currently running Version 6.0.6 r130049 (Qt5.6.2)

Socratis poked me since he noticed the known issue of misplacing the media registry in the VM config file (which happens purely in the context of VM import with 6.0.x releases). That's why I gave an update on this aspect, which is unrelated to the error you've mentioned last.

The error you get is likely due to copying only the first bit of what socratis provided. There's a lot more than 8 lines (mind the scollbar...) in his proposed config file content.

Klaus, Here are the contents of the file that Socrates crafted for me. I am pretty sure this is more than 8 lines. I find that everyone that has been trying to help me is presuming that I am not following the instructions. I can assure you I have made mistakes but I am trying desperately to following instructions explicitly. I have tried to provide screenshots in a lot of these posts to show that I am attempting to do ask instructed. There are simply no more lines to this error other than what I have copied and pasted as instructed by Socrates. - http://prntscr.com/o0yki1

Thanks for your help.

I don't understand the difficulty. You can clearly see at a glance that your copy of the .vbox file is truncated on column 16 of line 219, whereas the text that Socratis provided has 234 lines. Since this is exactly what the error message told you I'd have thought the problem and the cure were both obvious.

I am sorry. I do see this..... I went ahead and corrected this in the vbox file. I attempted to add the machine again via Machine>add and then got this error:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine MSEdge - Win10.

Could not open the medium 'C:\Users\Administrator\VirtualBox VMs\MSEdge - Win10 - Copy\MSEdge - Win10-disk001.vmdk'.

VD: error VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND opening image file 'C:\Users\Administrator\VirtualBox VMs\MSEdge - Win10 - Copy\MSEdge - Win10-disk001.vmdk' (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: MediumWrap
Interface: IMedium {ad47ad09-787b-44ab-b343-a082a3f2dfb1}

This is weird - VirtualBox says that something isn't there when it is. Since usually both claims are correct it's a question what's the difference between the config file representation of the file name and what you have on disk. In other words - there are likely some funny characters in the disk image file name... either the spaces are no real spaces, the dash(es) are no real dashes and so on.

The directory part is certainly no problem, because VirtualBox takes the VM directory as the starting point for the (relative) file name in the config file, so only that bit can have issues.

Sometimes Unicode can be a pain... this problem didn't exist in the good old ASCII only days.

Doh. Apologies to Unicode, it's not to blame this time. Your disk extension is .vdi, and for some reason socratis assumed it's .vmdk. Just adjust the line containing "<HardDisk uuid="{5311974e" to have the file name extension .vdi, and also change the format from VMDK to VDI.

I did notice that but chalked it up to me not knowing enough about this process. Let me makes those adjustments and report back.

The characters in the .vbox file seem to be standard ASCII, so that would imply that the file on the host is different.

I would just copy the filename string out of the .vbox file and use it to rename the file on the host, making them identical.
