Hi;
I have 3 ver. of win10 set up as guests.
Normal win10 64bit 4gb ram
win10 32 bit insider edition 2gb ram
win10 64 bit insider edition 4gb ram
This is on a Win7 host with 8gb ram
I can not get them to resize to anything other than 800x600 or 1024x768, no auto-resize
I have newest guest additions installed, they show up in task bar.
I have tried in vboxvga, vmsvga and vbosvga modes with 256mb, 1 mon, 3d is not checked.
I can not change it using view menu. Full screen does work.
It has been this way for at least the last 3 ver of virtualbox. current 6.02
I do not seem to have any issues when running vista, xp, or any ver of linux.
How do I resolve this?
Also probably unrelated and a different issue but when starting any win10 it kills the network (even my host) for up to 5 min before anything works properly.

Re: Win10 guest window size/resize
Generally speaking:
- Keep the VBoxVGA option for now. The VBoxSVGA is relatively new and it has still some issues. The VMSVGA is for Linux guests, don't even go there.
- Keep 2D/3D enabled, and max the VRAM.
- Do not change the resolution from the host, change it from withib the guest. It's better if the guest knows what's happening.
- Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe problem / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
- With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
- Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.

Re: Win10 guest window size/resize
I have the settings as you suggest except 3D, It gives an invalid settings detected.
I do not know what the issue is.

Re: Win10 guest window size/resize
OK here are some things I have tried and noticed.
Completely uninstalled GA with revo uninstaller in advanced mode.
Win10 then shows screen resolutions available up to 1600x900 in settings and they work.
Re-install GA and available resolutions are limited to 800x600 and 1024x768 in settings
Auto-resize does not work.
I can not change resolution in VM window under view although a bunch of resolutions are listed.
I can change scale factor.
I reboot after every change.
I can not enable 3d, get invalid setting notification due to hardware graphics acceleration.
In system the acceleration is set for Legacy (I never changed this, that was the default)
What am I missing?
Like I said this is Windows 10 (32 and 64) only, all other VMs (Vista, XP, Linux) work fine.

Re: Win10 guest window size/resize
Some more things I have tried.
Reinstalled VB 6.0.2 and expansion pack
created new Win10 VM. using default settings except 4gb ram, 256mb video
Install guest additions.
Can not resize the screen or change resolution.
What am I doing wrong???

See the 6.0.4 discussion topic. In particular the advice to try the latest test build.
Re: Win10 guest window size/resize
Thanks to some helpful folks on a different forum, the issue is solved.
It turns out that it is a setting in the Host Preferences in display.

Hi, for everyone looking to solve the problem - search for link: blogs oracle virtualbox-guest-additions-iso-download by joshis
The GuestAdditions iso should be installed. Check your version. Download it from the Guest, mount and install. After restart everything goes perfect. Also resolves file sharing which was my problem.
Hope to help you too

Re: Win10 guest window size/resize
No, that is not the proper way to install the Guest Additions (GAs). You do not have to download it separately from the main VirtualBox program, since it comes bundled with it. See ch. 4.1. Introduction to Guest Additions.ozazza wrote:Download it from the Guest, mount and install.
