For me, with 6.0.10, installation and system assessment do work on the 32-bit version of Windows Vista, in the sense that they complete without errors; this is the first 6.0 version of VirtualBox that reaches this point. However, Aero still does not work on the 32-bit version of Vista (and the screenshot posted by BillG seems to indicate it doesn't for him, either). Aero does work on the 64-bit version of a Windows Vista guest. There is also a significant difference in performance score: 1.0 on the 32-bit guest vs. 4.5 on the 64-bit guest.

FWIW, I still can't get aero working on my 64-bit Vista guest with 6.0.12 additions installed. I get the same error as others when trying to run the winsat.

Also, some more information that might help. When I boot my Vista 64-bit guest, and select disable driver signature enforcement on the F8 menu... The 64-bit dxdiag now shows Direct3D support, and I have the option to enable Aero in the "Window Color and Appearance" section of the control panel. However doing so results in a completely corrupted display image.

I am having the same problem, and have installed 4.2.22, 4.3.24, 5.2.22, and 6.0.14 of the guest additions, to no avail. The log files have been attached for your reference.

Socratis, is this problem being fixed in the next build of VirtualBox?

I don't have the slightest idea, it's been quite some time actually since I've had a chance to take a look at the Timeline...

There is a ticket open for that! Just look at the first post of the thread, the thing with the red letters and in the thread's title, the #18308 part.

You just opened a short-life duplicate ticket...

But they said at the top to report duplicate reports, due to this problem not being resolved. and that is closed.
EDIT: Not closed. :oops:

To whom it may interest: Gust additions v6.0.14 still broken on Windows Vista!

(no new details/logs, as the problem should be well-known by now and nothing has ever changed since the original report)

Just to tell you that I have the same problem with Windows 7 guest since the 6.0.14 version of the guest additions on a Windows host only, the same VM copied on a macOS host work perfectly.
I have updated the guest additions from 6.0.8 version to 6.0.14 and Aero was been disabled.

On a macOS Mojave host : https://p97.f4.n0.cdn.getcloudapp.com/i ... 13fb926e6e

@LolYangccool,
Did you notice that the thread is about Vista? And Vista-64 specifically, not even Vista-32. Please don't hijack/piggyback on other people's threads, it's easy enough to create your very own, unique thread that gets all the attention. Do not hijack other threads, create your own. Choose the title carefully.

Second, you attach the images locally in your response (see the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form). Not a lot of people will go to 3rd party sites. Plus, it's more convenient if the image goes along with the message.

Of course you don't have to do this with your current message, because it's irrelevant to this thread...

It's exactly THE SAME problem like Vista.

I'll try on Vista and I have the same problem to.

Can't get Areo on Windows Vista (x64) on VBox 6.0.14

Post by ChansLeChan »

Hello,
I am unable to enable Areo effects on my Windows Vista (x64, SP1) guest. I have installed the Guest Extensions with the WDDM drivers, and enabled the 3D Acceleration Feature. Add add to the problem, Windows Says that VboxDispD3D.dll is bad. Any help?

@ChansLeChan
I merged your post with the thread that deals with this issue.

It helps if you think "Where do I have the problem, on the Host or on the Guest?". Then 1) you wouldn't have asked the question in the "Windows Hosts" section, 2) you would have found the relevant thread, just by searching for "Vista"... ;)
