Hi,
I have this configuration:
PC: Lenovo M91p
Host system: Ubuntu 16.04
VB-Version: 5.2.8 r121009 (Qt5.6.1)
Guest: Windows 7 prof
Printer: LaserJet xyz via USB Port with network share (!)
Problem:
On the Windows client sometimes after a new start the USB port will be changed: Windows installs a new port f.e. USB002 (in addition to USB001), although the printer cable always sticks to the same USB input at the host machine. Sometimes even a new copy of the printer driver as "LaserJet xyz (1)" is automaticly installed and the original one doesn't print any more.
The same problem occured on other PC's with similar configurations.
Has anybody a solution or explanation to this?
F.

Re: uncontrolled changing of USB ports
Why does this matter? USB devices are addressed on boot by their device (vendor and product) IDs, and thereafter by temporary USB network address, never by port number. Inside your host PC all of your USB2 external ports are logically connected together to one hub, and maybe your USB3 ports to another. The numbering of which device wakes up first on boot is random, I would say that depending on a particular order is bad, except that I don't know how I could build in an assumption of order. But, perhaps you are seeing a foible of Linux hosts.
