Install Win10 to VM from non-VM backup

I currently have a Windows 10 machine. What I would like to do is make a backup of the Windows 10, install Linux Mint, install Virtualbox, and then restore the Windows 10 to the VM. I have have been using Acronis True Image as my backup tool but I would be open to other options. Has anyone done this?

Where is the problem? You can restore the TrueImage Backup in the vm, i've done such things many times.

towo2099 - Wouldn't that imply that I would need to install Windows 10 in the VM, then install Acronis Trueimage, and then restore the Windows 10 from backup? I would appreciate it if your could detail the steps as I'm new to Virtualbox.

Thank you

If you have Acronis TrueImage, you should know the Acronis Bootable Media, from which you can boot the vm and restore your image backup.
So what makes you think, you have to install windows 1st?

I want to install Linux Mint as my OS, and Windows 10 as my VM. I know how to restore a Windows 10 image to an empty drive. I guess you don't understand what I am trying to do.

Sure i understand, what you want.
Restoring an image to an empty drive is the default case for an image backup programm like Acronis TrueImage. Here it doen't matter, if that drive is real or virtualized.
Seems you don't know, your favorite programm, not me, so i'm out here.

That's fine. I do know True Image in Windows, I don't know Virtualbox and True Image in Linux. I was just looking for what steps would be done to install my backup to a Virtualbox VM that was created in Linux. You may excuse my ignorance but I was asking for guidance, and it appears you only want to point that out rather than help. Thank you anyway and have a great day!

The TrueImage Rescue CD is not running in Linux. It's running in a bare PC, albeit a simulated one. The host OS is not relevant to the discussion, so I'm moving this topic to "Windows Guests".
