After updating my High Sierra 10.13.3 MacOS with 5.2.6 r120293 and updating and installing the Guest additions, when my Win10 starts the screen is black. To recover I have to go to Machine > Reset, and when prompted with the "Do you really want to reset the following virtual machines?", the Win10 screen shows, and (of course) I select Cancel. After that, things seem normal.
Windows 10 Home version 1709, OS Build 16299.192
Is there a fix coming soon for it, or should I revert to a previous snapshot?
Thanks,
lmh

Please provide a VM log file. With the VM fully shut down, right click it in the GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

Re: Win10 after 5.2.6 r120293 blank screen on MacOS host
What is this log supposed to show me? It seems to show me a VM which boots normally, I see the GAs being loaded meaning that Win10 certainly booted ok, then I see the VM being shut down after 54 seconds of runtime, which doesn't seem long enough to decide that the VM has hung. It's a normal shutdown too.

I had waited for the black screen to do something before I went to Machine > Reset to show the login screen. So after I read your post I waited a little longer. Sure enough after about 20 seconds or so the login screen shows.
Thank you for your help even though there really wasn't anything wrong.

Well... there were a couple of things:lmh wrote:even though there really wasn't anything wrong.
1) Your expectation for a "fix" to a non-problem; that was cleared, and
2) You learned to "adjust" how much you've got to wait for a guest to boot. More than instantly...

So in fact the actual problem was a slow boot. Looking at the log in that light... nope, I still don't see anything out of the ordinary. Perhaps you have fast boot turned off, or perhaps it was just doing activation or update checks: I do indeed see a longish sequence of timer frequency changes which I associate with network activity.

Nope... I happen to have the exact same MBPr model (11,5). The boot process is almost identical, almost to the second, message-by-message. That's as normal as it gets.
As for the fast startup, I don't think you have that option in a VM, as I believe it depends on the hibernation capability of the computer, and the "hardware" doesn't allow for hibernation. I think it's the video card, but I could be wrong...
