Problem to connect an Android tablet under Win7

Post by Filou »

Hello.

I'm trying to install an Android Driver ( IntelAndroidDrvSetup1.10.0.exe ) under Windows 7 (32 bits).
The host is my iMac under MacOS 10 12 6.
Latest version of VirtualBox is installed.
My purpose is to re-init a Medion Lifetab P8311 Andoid Tablet.

Install of the driver seems to end normally
But after connecting the tablet to the system,
I systematically obtain an error message:
'Echec de la connexion du périphérique USB Android ... à la machine virtuelle Win7 (32)'
(failure of the connection ...)
'USB device ... is in use by someone else' !
'Code erreur NS_error_failure (0x80004005)'

Could you please help me ?
Thanks a lot in advance

Probably all you need to do is add a USB filter, and plug the android device in AFTER Windows 7 has finished booting.

Also see: USB FAQ.

Hi mpack

Thanks for your response.
I tryed it: I added a filter (following the instructions in USB FAQ) and plugged the device after the boot
but without success.
USB drivers seems to be correct in the 'configuration system / peripherals...'
but I have the same message :
'le pilote de périphérique n'a pu être installé' and after 'périphérique USB MTP: échec'
( 'The device driver could not be installed' and after 'MTP USB device: failed' )

Of course, I don't see the device in the Explorer...

mpack gave you a series of posts to read. Please follow the advice of the last post, "#8: Asking for help".

And I want you to describe fully what you're doing and why. And the exact steps. I really need to understand what the following means:

I imagine that by "reinit" an Android device he basically wants to wipe it and install a new Android image onto it. I've done that myself when an older Android tablet didn't have an internal upgrade path to the latest Android. In my case there was a USB debug app to install on a PC, and an Android image to download and install on the device.

I thought so, just wanted to make sure, just for one reason; does this procedure change the VID and PID of the device? I vaguely remember something like that. Maybe we even had this discussion about your Android in the past, not sure...

Sorry for the delay...
Many thanks to you Socratis and Mpack

Yes, indeed, I want to reinstall Android on a tablet Medion Lifetab P8311.
This is the tablet of a friend who lost the password.
Apparently the only solution is to reset the machine.
For that, I try to follow the procedure described here:

I wanted to add a link but:
"You must be a member for 1 days and have 1 posts before you can post urls."
I'll try it later ... Sorry.

Since you need a PC and I do not have any anymore, I go through VirtualBox ...

Hmm. Most devices I've used have had a "factory reset" option in there somewhere that will revert the device to the first on state (where Google leads you through creating an account), might be worth searching for that.

I'm not sure that a VM is a viable option for this - if I understand correctly the USB debug app works at quite a low level. Still, if you can post that link it may help (obsfuscate it: we mods can edit your post to correct the link and make it usable).

I tryed the factory reset
but it doesn't work !

I tryed also a procedure 'to correct the boot order...'
because
'In rare cases, it is possible that the tablet will no longer boot into the Android system, but rather only into a special mini-system known as the EFI shell. This shows a series of partly coloured, English text messages on a black background, followed by a prompt. Even restarting the system always ends up in this state.
The tablet has lost the information that tells it which of the various contained (sub) systems is the primary Android system and therefore boots the wrong one. '

(doc of Medion - link will also follow in the evening)

Without success... :(

  1. I don't have that tabled (nor am I going to get it), so I can't help you with that procedurem since I can't replicate it.
  2. Resetting your Android is not a VirtualBox related problem. Seeing your Android in your guest, might be. So, let's focus on that part.
Please read the following thread: USB basics and troubleshooting, all of the posts. If you still have a problem after reading through the whole thing, please follow the advice of the last post, #8: Asking for help.

Focus on seeing the tablet seem's me the good way indeed.

But I have no more idea on how to progress ... :(
I tryed the same operation on a Win XP guest with the same result.

I hope to try it on a PC of my son but I would prefer to do that on my iMac/VirtualBox.

Re: Problem to connect an Android tablet under Win7

Everything look fine from a setup point of view. The only thing you could try is to enable USB3 in the VM settings, instead of the current USB2. But, since your guest (Win7) doesn't natively support USB3, you have to install some software from Intel to make that work. See USB basics and troubleshooting » #6: Guest support for more details.
