Today, give Vbox 5.2.20 r125813 a try--

Windows 7 HOST
Boot up Windows XP GUEST, when startup progress finished, looks (and sounds..)very neat at first.

The sound is good for most of Windows XP's PCM (windows'startup.wav...), other PCM not play well, some very short (less than 1 second) PCM files play no sound or sound loop infinity , some un-common used bitrate mono PCM files were no play at all.

For multimedia application, like music player with some MP3 files. Music outputted as expected, said, about 5 minutes music can play well. while there were a gap/latency that human can notice. Sound output lag behind about 500~1500ms

For video files playback, the sound is out-of-sync with video frame, about 500~1500ms. For PC Game(yes it is), also can notice sound lag behind. (Can killing any willing of game.)

It's not bad compared to last time (with Vbox 5.1.38), but also not good compared to baremetal. The result is not quite content to me, since there were no further update within 5.1.x, and I go back with 5.1.30.

Try 5.2.18 instead and let us know. It tests pretty well for many people, as 5.2.20 seems to have introduced more problems.

Today I try VBox 5.2.28. Now, Windows XP GUEST has better sound than previous test, and I can not find any playback latency by my ear. That's count a good news. Additionally, when I watch video files or play some games (namely, AoE1), I feel none glitch of sound delay behind.

The bad news, I heard no sound with very short PCM file, about 120ms? Uploading file log and wave, link: xp_log_wave.zip (let me know if link is dead)
What I can not hear in VM is that very short "pop" PCM repeating 5 time.
