• Avast requires VT-x for its installation these days.
• VT-x is not available on a guest.
• Therefore, do not install Avast on a guest.

Thanks for info any suggestions what to use instead it’s got to be a free version as iam just experimenting with program at moment . It does seem to work very good at the moment but for peace of mind I would like some sort of virus protection.
Iam running a old Dell Pc with Vista main program and Xp in virtual window .
3Gb memory 1Gb allocated to Xp virtual
30 Gb hard drive space allocated to Xp virtual.
Thanks for your help

1) don't connect to the net with the VM, or at least not to the internet, 2) if you *have* to connect to the internet, install an antivirus that doesn't rely heavily on newer hardware features.

Seems quite difficult to find anything that will work without problems .
1 Avast free give error didn’t install.
2 Pc Protect crashed virtual xp
3 Total Av installed (free ver) then it connected to there site for payment so much for been Free.
4. Kaspersky Free sort of installed but keeps coming up with Memory problem ???

Then don't connect to the network with something that's unsupported.
