GuestAdditions 5.1.30 for Win32 killed USB

Post by davewho »

I upgraded from 5.1.28 to 5.1.30 on a Windows 10 Host, which required the GuestAdditions to be upgraded, as well. This fixed an issue that my Ubuntu guest was having mounting to shared files with the Windows 10 host. However, upgrading my 32-bit Windows 7 guest killed the USB. The error is:
Result Code: E_INVALIDARG (0x80070057)
Component: HostUSBDeviceWrap
Interface: IHostUSBDevice {c19073dd-cc7b-431b-98b2-951fda8eab89}
Callee: IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}.
I have used the Win32 guest and this same USB device for more than a year. The Win32 guest has worked with at least three versions of Virtualbox. I have noticed that the Virtualbox USB device no longer appears in the "Devices and Printers" Control Panel page on the Windows 10 system. From within the Win32 guest, I even ran "VBoxWindowsAdditions-x86 /extract /D=C:\Drivers".

Any ideas?

  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe error / Shutdown the VM.
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response (see the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form).
