keyboard randomness

I'm having a setup of openSUSE host and windows7 client virtualbox v5.1.28. I recently moved hardware and as an outcome also keyboard layout. I switched from UK to US layout in both linux and windows environments. However within the guest I randomly get either capitols when I type lower case or the @ instead of the 2 when I type numbers. I have been looking around on the guest and googled and it must be related to this hardware switch as before I had no such issue. I'm at a loss what this can be or how to investigate this further. Has anyone else maybe had similar experiences.
