Windows 7 critical error on starting a VM that previously has always run

Post by paolov »

I suddenly experienced today on my windows host+windows guest virtualbox a critical error on starting vm's.

The host PC itself crashes right after clicking ok on the critical error.

If I ignore, the crash is only delayed but the PC still crashes. The crash has no blue screen. The PC just dies. My machine is a Dell Alienware 17.

I am attaching copy of vbox.log and vbox.png.

I've been using this vm regularly for a long time now. This is the first that it has crashed.

I notice too that running other windows VMs, results in similar crash.

I would appreciate any help/guidance.

Thanks.

4.3.28? Sorry, ancient history is not my strong suit. Perhaps if you update to the current version of VirtualBox then the behaviour might be different.

I have the same problem.

Yesterday the VM ran correctly until now. I tried to start the system and when the Windows logo disappears the message appears.

"A critical error has occurred while running the virtual machine and the machine execution has been stopped"

VirtualBox 5.1.28
Windows 7 64-bit host 8Gb Ram
Windows 7 32-bit guest with 4Gb Ram

Thanks for your time and help.

@javogonz
You have the following in your log:
00:00:43.863395 !! VCPU0: Guru Meditation -2301 (VERR_REM_VIRTUAL_CPU_ERROR)
You need to enable VT-x in the BIOS and enable PAE/NX in the VM Settings » System » Processor. If you have VT-x enabled in the BIOS, take a look in I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests to get some ideas about who might be using your VT-x exclusively.
