[Solved] Windows 10: Virtual Box Guess Additions 5.1.28 acceleration hangs RDC, Outlook, etc.

Post by AndreaL »

Hello, I have updated Virtual Box to the lastest version (5.1.28) today. I installed the Guess Additions as well (5.1.28), and after doing that, I've been getting all kind of errors related to the graphic driver. I'm pasting some of the errors. If I turn off 2D acceleration and 3D acceleration, the errores do not appear.

Can you try with the test builds (https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds) or with 5.2.0rc1 (http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/5.2.0_RC1/) and see if it gets fixed?

I had the same issue (macOS High Sierra host, Win 10 guest) and I can confirm that upgrading to RC1 (both VirtualBox itself and then the Guest Additions) has seemed to solve it for me.

One thing to note is that I needed to fire up the guest OS without 3D acceleration enabled first to be able to update the Guest Additions due to the initial error. After that, Guest Additions is no longer stopping me installing/running apps in Windows.

Cheers

I was not ready to update to a RC, but I have updated to the 5.1.30 today, and it seems to be fixed. I was able to re-enable 2d and 3d acceleration, and everything seems to be working fine (for now). Thanks!

Actually today (2017-10-18), 5.2.0 came out as well. You must have missed it by hours ;)
And yes, it's fixed there as well...
