Windows 2000 freeze on boot

Post by robsonbyte »

I need help: I have two virtual machines (Windows 2000 and Windows 7). Windows 2000 has stopped working, but Windows 7 works normally. Windows 2000 does not complete the boot and is frozen. I have the latest version of Virtual Box.

Follow a "start the VM from cold-boot" / "observe error" / "shutdown the VM" cycle. With the VM shut down completely (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log". Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response (see the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form).

PS. "the latest version of Virtual Box" is not going to look correct in a couple of months. Always state explicitly the version of each software you're referring to.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

You are allocating memory you don't have. You need to find out what the memory hogs are on this host and eliminate them.

Did you create this VM yourself? And did it ever work? I'm not certain that enabling 3D acceleration is very useful with a Win2K guest, especially since you haven't installed the guest additions.

Have you tried pressing f8 after the Virtualbox screen and booting in safe mode? If you can boot into safe mode, do so and try to remove any suspicious applications that may be responsible.

Hiper/V was disabled, I do not know how it happened. I enabled Hi-V and I reserved 400mb ram and it came back up and running again. Thanks.

That makes very little sense to me. VirtualBox and Hyper-v are competing products. VirtualBox does NOT rely on the presence of Hyper-v, on the contrary enabling Hyper-v will prevent many VirtualBox features from working properly.

Probably confusing Hyper-V and VT-x. The big V's throw 'em off, maybe...

I have a similar issue and would like advise, maybe its just a question of reparing my VHD via the installation disk.

Apologies if this is a repeat question but any help or adivise will be appreciated.

VirtualBox version:
5.2.20 r125813 (Qt5.6.2)

That is a standard Windows 2000/Windows 7 boot error screen. It happens anytime that a machine (physical or virtual) is not shut down properly. Normally pressing the Enter key will resume the boot. If that fails try the Last Known Good Configuration option.
