Windows 10 Build 15002 keeps crashing after update

Post by LeTroll »

I had this bug this morning.

To fix it :
Boot in safe mode, go to device manager and uninstall the VirtualBox video driver and check "Delete driver". Hit F5 to reinstall default basic Microsoft driver and reboot.

Hope it will help and VirtualBox team will fix thier video driver!

Yes me too. I had to untick 3D acceleration as well. Screen is 1024x768 but at least it is running.

Firstly, thanks for this workaround. I will try it after I log out. I am on a Debian Jessie host, v5.1.12 VirtualBox, WIN10 Japanese running an English desktop with bilingual input.

I can get in once, get a BSOD, then no video on the reboot. If I close and re-start VirtualBox, I get another chance with working video -- temporarily. In addition to the video fail and repeated BSOD, 15002 continues to only allow me only Japanese menus and has disabled the ability to switch the desktop language to English. English shows as the default desktop language, but I keep being told that I have to download the English language pack, which then fails. This also happened in the previous version (14983?) and I had to dial back to 14971 to get stable English desktop language and 1080p video.

Right now, I can get into the desktop and, if I wait for all processes to boot (including Skype), the first mouse click causes a BSOD. Previously, reinstalling the current Guest Additions package slowed the crashes until I could take a look around and decide to go back to a previous version. I have also experienced a conflict between the VirtualBox video driver and Skype in several previous versions of WIN 10. Do not know whether this is an issue here.

----------

Talking to myself:

Turned off 3D. Tried to roll back to 14971 and was told that I could not do so, but I could run restore, which has me stuck on 15002, with no chance to back up to a version that works, and with no Guest Additions loaded. Video resolution is 1440x1050 on a 1080p monitor. I also lost most of my installed programs, but my data is safe (I learned years ago to install everything not WIN to a disk other than C:\).

Bug seems to be fixed now with Build 15007. I installed latest VirtualBoxAddons and it works great now.

It's really disappointing that Oracle refuses to be proactive about the upcoming "Creator's Update" to Windows 10. Enterprises (including mine) are already trying to test the new release, and not having a compatible video driver is making it MUCH more difficult to do. We were able to get a jump on the "Anniversary Update", so it went very smoothly. Oracle appears to be waiting for the screaming to start before they actually do something.

It's clear that the next GA update will not support older video equipment, and here Oracle is dragging their feet and refusing to update the virtual video driver in time to have it in place, and well-tested by the time Microsoft releases the next Windows 10.

Makes you wonder what they're thinking...

You should definitely call your Oracle representative and complain loud and clear about that.
I know I would, if I had bought licenses and support (which you obviously do)!
I know it doesn't come cheap (starting at 5,000 $), so I would want support for my untested toy. NOW!
Actually scratch that, I wanted them to have a video driver ready and waiting for me even before Microsoft dreamt of releasing their (what's it called again?) release.

The nerve of some people companies some times is astonishing!!!
