Can't use Aero on Windows 7/Vista
Hello everyone.
First up, sorry for my grammar, my natal language is spanish
I created a virtual machine that runs Windows 7, It works perfectly fine. I installed the Guest Additions (with the advanced Direct3D driver) and it made the vm full resolution, but I can't use Aero, I set the vm with 256 MB of video memory and 3D - 2D acceleration. And it doesn't work yet. I tried the same thing with a Windows Vista virtual machine, but it doesn't work.
HOST:
Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
Intel Core i3 530 processor
2 GB of Ram
VirtualBox v5.1.2
VM virtualization enabled (BIOS)
GUEST:
Windows 7 and Vista, (7: Ultimate - 64 bit) (Vista: Ultimate - 32 bit)
WDDM graphics driver
512 MB of Ram
256 MB of video memory
3D and 2D acceleration
Greetings

How do you know that Aero is not enabled? Do you have a process named "dmw.exe" running? If yes, Aero is running normally.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

Please attach the files locally. Not a lot of people will go to 3rd party sites, including myself.

On the other hand I see it as an opportunity to make you think a little bit outside the box. I see it as a good thing™.MickeyGP1378 wrote:And that's why I posted a website...
I see DWM.EXE on the list, which means that Aero is running.
Again I'll ask you the same question: Why do you think that Aero is not enabled? What's your evidence?
You can also post the question in Spanish and we'll use Google translate, it that helps you.

Re: Can't use Aero on Windows 7/Vista
More photos.
Weird things:
1. - I did a clean installation (another VM) and doesn't work
2. - Tried the same thing in Vista
3. - I tried with the Aero Troubleshooter and it says that the driver does not support Aero
Well here is in spanish.
Mas fotos
Cosas raras:
1. - Hice una instalación "limpia" (en otra maquina virtual), y no funciona
2. - He intentado lo mismo en Vista
3. - He intentado solucionar el problema usando el "solucionador de problemas de aero", pero me dice que el driver no soporta Aero

Re: Can't use Aero on Windows 7/Vista
You are running Aero. If you open a couple of windows and press WindowsKey+Tab you should see a nice 3D effect. That's your proof.
I also followed Microsoft's recommendation. No problems. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976170

@MickeyGP1378 please read these

https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/16097
They should explain the lack of Aero support.

@pal1000
I don't see any evidence that the OP was using an Intel HD3000 or similar. Did I miss something? Also, any particular reason to wake the thread up?
