Windows 10 Update to 1511 10586

Post by BlueLagoon »

Current Configuration
--------------------------
PC: Dell XPS 15 9530
Host: Windows 10 Home - 64 bit
Virtual Box version: 5.0.10 r 104061
Guest: Windows 10 Pro – 64 bit

I noticed yesterday that this upgrade has removed my Guest's Shared Drive - \\vboxsvr\ is no longer listed as a network location. Also, this upgrade has turned-off System Protection on my C: drive. Easy to turn System Protection back on but.....
Checked my Host's Guest config and the Shared Drive is still there.
This morning I restored an older version of the Guest C: drive .vdi and let the upgrade run again. It took 90 minutes and gave me the same problems.

Has anyone else had the \\vboxsvr\ problem?
Has anyone got any suggestions as to what I can do to get my Shared Drive working again?

Thank you.

Hi,
I had to re-install the guest additions.

I assume all customer drivers are removed by the upgrade since it also removed some of my other drivers.

But I came to the forum to look for display driver issues. VB Display driver crashes since Win1511.
Thanks, ucrasher.

Many thanks ucrasher. re-installing Guest Additions resolved the problem. Now all I've got to fix is a distorted sound problem; but I've been living with that since installing the original windows 10.

Good luck with your display driver's problem.

Also unable to connect network drives after update to Windows 10 10586. "VBOXSVR - this folder is empty". I have reloaded Guest Additions (4.3.20 iso) but makes no difference. Would really appreciate some help! OS-X 10.11.3 host.

Ref uncrasher and VB Display drivers

I have encountered the same issue.

VB 5.1 r108711 on fedora 24 x86_64
Guest Windows 10 x64

Image has had many versions of guest additions but when W10 updated to 1511, 10586.494 the installation of Guest additions fails at the Graphics driver and falls back to MS Basic

If I uninstall all the guest additions and remove oracle driver from Device Manager then it sort of works. ie it finds the Oracle graphics driver and uses it however the resolution is wrong and seemless mode is not available

This started on VB 5.0.26 the 5.0.26 and finaly 5.1 all the same error so I assuming it was the recent W10 upgrade broke the driver

I am happy to test any sugestions or ideas

Version 1511 will be upgraded to version 1607 shortly (2nd August). Perhaps that will improve things (or maybe not)!

Fixed It !

The actual fix was tro update the native NVIDEA driver for my GT750 TI. So my platform is now

Linux Fedora 24 I7 32GB Host
Nvidia GT750TI - Native Driver Version /home/mikep/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-367.35
VirtualBox from Oracle rpm - 5.1.2 r108956
Guest Windows 10 64bit Ber 1511 (OS Build 10586.494)

I cannot be conclusive as the fix is either the Nvidia driver Update

Or

I installed a Kernel upgrade but did not re-install the NVIDIA driver

If you are trying this fix I suggest trying the Re Load First in case your setup doesnt like the latest Nvidia driver
