I don't have the error in front of me, but it was a STOP error, with no driver(s) or other components listed.
Could be this bug: "Repeated BSODs with vBox 1.6.4, XP SP3, SATA => Fixed in 1.6.6"

hjacobson wrote:I set up an XP guest to test a slipstreamed XP w SP3 install CD. The host OS's (I synchronize the .vdi to several hosts) are several flavors of Vista and XP w SP3. XP was installed on a .vdi disk configured as IDE Primary Master. I decided to run the .vdi disk as SATA for the boost in performance over IDE.

Just some terse notes:
(1) For SATA functionality under XP I used the latest RAID/AHCI Intel Matrix Storage Manager, v8.2.0.1001 of 6/2/2008.
(2) The VB setting for SATA controller must be activated. Else the Intel install quits stating the machine does not meet minimum requirements. With the SATA Controller active the Intel AHCI driver installs correctly.
(3) With the Intel AHCI driver installed, I changed VB setting for the disk from IDE Primary Master to SATA Port 0.
(4) This configuration boots successfully and is much faster than IDE.

Thanks. This worked perfectly with VBox 2.0, using the latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager v 8.5 driver

Perhaps an error of the driver. Try an older version.

Which version did you pick? I have XP SP3 running on driver version 7.8.0.1012.
