Can't Open EXE Files On Windows XP
I've installed Windows XP on VB yesterday, and things were working fine until I've installed the service packs.
The browsers seem to work good. If I right-click on My Computer and click properties, it takes like at least a minute to open. I've installed WIndows XP on VM 4.1, I've upgraded to 4.3, latest version. Still not working.

Attach a compressed copy of the vbox.log for the guest.

I wasn’t sure which one to attach, so I've just attached the first one.

Re: Can't Open EXE Files On Windows XP
Since this sounds like a guest OS problem I don't expect the log to tell us much, and it doesn't: except that 1.5GB is not a lot for a 64bit Windows VM.
Are you certain that this was 64bit XP btw? That was a rare beast, mostly hardware manufacturers weren't geared up to write 64bit compatible drivers yet.
You need to open the task monitor inside XP to find out who is hogging CPU or I/O or RAM. My guess is that it's the usual problem with new XP installations (physical or virtual): Windows Update.

Re: Can't Open EXE Files On Windows XP
I was wondering about the Windows XP 64bit issue also. The name is correct however, "Windows XP Professional 64bit".

Re: Can't Open EXE Files On Windows XP
I agree this doesn't look like the normal random mistake, but it's always worth checking, given how obscure XP 64bit was.

Re: Can't Open EXE Files On Windows XP
The System Information seems to be opening quick, but still can't open EXE files. I'm doing updates now.
How do I check it, to see what the problem may be?

Re: Can't Open EXE Files On Windows XP
Alexa, when you say you can't "open" .exe files, you do mean run them correct? .exe files are "executables", i.e. programs.

That's what I did, I've also right-clicked and chose run, none seem to work. It seems to be any file.loukingjr wrote:well you have to dbl-click on them for one thing. which .exe files can't you run?
Before downloaded dot net framework 4.0, they worked well.

Re: Can't Open EXE Files On Windows XP
It sounds like you have a problem with your XP install, not with VirtualBox.
See: http://filext.com/faq/broken_exe_association.php
It might help.

It seems to be working now. After I did updates, and restarted, it seems to work, no problem.
Thanks.
