Network Interface in XP doesn't start but does show up

Post by billbraske »

I can't get networking to work with my XP SP2 guest running on top of Ubuntu Hardy and VirtualBox 1.5.6_OSE. In device manager(in windows) my network interface displays an error of 'This device cannot start(Code 10)'. I have the network interface setup for NAT and set as connected. I've tried shutting down, disabling interface 0 and setting NAT on interface 1, and it came up with the same error.

So it would seem that for whatever reason windows isn't letting me install the virtual networking interface. I haven't found anything on the forums that struck me as similar but please point me in the right direction if I missed something. Otherwise, if anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them.

What does google say about 'Hardware failed to start'? This is a WIndows problem, as I've seen it several times, including other hardware.
