I have a weird problem with mouse wheel scrolling in Windows guests. The scrolling only works when I hold the mouse perfectly still. If the mouse is not completely stationary, the wheel skips steps. If I try to move the mouse on purpose while scrolling, the faster I move the mouse the worse becomes the skipping.
The skipping occurs in all applications, including something as basic as Notepad.
The mouse works perfectly fine in the host system.
Host OS: Windows 7 SP1 x64.
VirtualBox: 4.3.6 r91406
Guest OS: Windows XP SP3 x86, Windows 7 x86 (same problem in both).
Mouse: Microsoft Wireless Mouse 3500.

Re: Mouse wheel scrolling issue in Windows guests
P. S. The problem is observed with or without Guest Additions installed.
P. P. S. Turning Mouse Integration on or off does not fix the problem either.

Solved.
Installing Microsoft IntelliPoint software on the host fixes the problem.

Sorry to bring up old posts, but I recently ran into this and found the solution required installing the intellipoint drivers AND the microsoft mouse and keyboard center. In the center app, I turned off scroll acceleration and used the 'identify programs that don't scroll correctly...' link to select virtualbox. After that scrolling in virtualbox works perfectly with no delays or lag.

@bluegroper
The IntelliMouse drivers solved the problem if they were installed in the HOST. You didn't mention it, but from previous posts you have a Linux host, not a Windows one, like the previous users.
Otherwise, Google is your friend...
