Hi Guys,
i have a weird problem with Adobe Photoshop and Windows 7 Guest in Virtualbox. Everything works fine but i can't use the brush- or pencil-tool right.
If i increase the size of the brush i can't see the outlines growing. The brush shape stays visible for example only in 60px, even if its 120px. The brush works in higher sizes but i can't see where it points to.
Its like the known problem with capslock but capslock isn't active.
Also i've checked every setting in Photoshop for Brushes. Everything is ok there. brushes are set to full view, tried with and without crosshair.
I can reproduce this problem with PS CS3, PS CS5 and PS CS6. Also on a Windows 7 32bit Guest.
(please see attached image)
I don't know if it is a problem with the graphic drivers or just a setting in Virtualbox. Maybe you guys know this problem and how to solve it.
My machine/settings
HOST: Xubuntu 12.04 x64
- Core i5 CPU
- 16 Gig RAM
Latest Virtualbox with VirtualBox Extension Pack installed
GUEST: Windows 7 x64
- 2 CPUs and 8 Gig RAM
- Guest Additions installed and working
- 2D and 3D acceleration enabled
- Tested with Photoshop CS5, CS3 & CS6
Thank you very much in advance.
Andi

Re: Windows7 Photoshop Brush Problem
I don't see how that could possibly be a VirtualBox problem. How could hardware simulation allow everything to work except brush size selection? I suggest you take this problem up with Adobe.
Re: Windows7 Photoshop Brush Problem
Hi mpack,
this is definitely not a Photoshop problem because i had it already working with virtualbox. In native Windows it works also without problem.
I guess its a problem of the graphics driver but i have no idea where i could try to fix it.
I've tried With/without 2D and 3D but this not fixed it.
Maybe its a (x)ubuntu problem. i had to config the Hotkeys because xubuntu uses ALT+Klick as a hotkey.
I hope someone have also installed Photoshop and knows this problem.

Re: Windows7 Photoshop Brush Problem
In what version of VirtualBox was it working and what was the host and guest?

Re: Windows7 Photoshop Brush Problem
Well thats a problem. I do not remember exactly what version. maybe 2 or 3 releases ago?!?
Host is always Xubuntu 12.04 x64 with latest patches.
Guest was a 32bit Windows 7 with the latest patches.
Now i use both Windows, 32 and 64bit.

Re: Windows7 Photoshop Brush Problem
you could try reverting back to a previous VB version. 4.2.12 or earlier. mpack is right though, it's very odd just one tool in one program stopped working.

Re: Windows7 Photoshop Brush Problem
Well i will give this a try if everything else is not working.
Maybe its because i've upgraded the Kernel to 3.5
I found a post where this problem is related to driver Problems with Nvidia Cards.
Also i found a tip to set the hardware acceleration in windows.
I'll check this later.

I'm using an Nvidia card but the graphic drivers are emulated anyway. The most recent versions of the nVidia Quadro 4800 and Geforce 9800 drivers fix the issue where large (~120 px) brush cursors disappear or fragment in Photoshop CS4.
Also i found a tip to set the hardware acceleration in windows.
I'll check this later.

Re: Windows7 Photoshop Brush Problem
I don't know if it will help but I read where scroll lock can be a problem as well and in the preferences normal tip should be checked.
