I take it 4.2.16 did not address the guest additions but just the install.

Re: Windows 8.1 / 2012 R2 Guest
interesting. I didn't do a reinstall but just redid the additions. perhaps I have to start from scratch.
edit: sheesh. I had no idea MS got rid of Aero in 8 and 8.1. It's why I thought the GAs weren't working. :smh:

Yeah well I only use it to test. Everything has reverted to windows 3.1 wfw as far as graphics goes so that's progress I guess. But we do have a start button of sorts so not everything is lost.

Re: Windows 8.1 / 2012 R2 Guest
okay well, I'm getting occasional screen corruption with Metro apps and random guests aborts at times but I don't know if it's a W 8.1 issue or a VB issue or the combo.
edit: when I install an application what I assume is suppose to happen is the background dims or fades but instead I get blocks of colors on the desktop and once installed, if I drag a window around the desktop it "erases" the garbage on the screen. I'm guessing it's once again a problem with Mac hosts and the guest additions, i.e. WDDM driver.

Re: Windows 8.1 / 2012 R2 Guest
I can't copy files from the shared host folder to the guest, unless the Network Adapter is enabled.
The shared files are grayed/washed out and I get this error:
Virtualbox 4.2.16, W7 64 host, W8.1 64 guest
In XP, 7 and 8 stable copying files from shared folders works just fine without enabling the network adapter.
Maybe it's not the fault of Virtualbox, though. Let me know.

I didn't check that. I'll see. Although I'm not sure why one would want to.

Re: Windows 8.1 / 2012 R2 Guest
I suppose it might have to do with running OSX as the host (assuming that's the case).
Would be nice to get a confirmation from someone using a Windows host.
I shall also add that I've disabled all the additional features during Virtualbox install.
But as I said, all the other Windows OSs work just fine with the exact same install/setup, it's only 8.1 that's problematic.

Re: Windows 8.1 / 2012 R2 Guest
Yes, I'm running a Mac host but if anything I would think that would make it less likely to work. And it's odd that you don't have the same problem with Windows 7 or 8 because as far as I know, the file handling between 8.1 and 8 hasn't changed. Maybe it's a bad install or somehow it became corrupted. I didn't update to 8.1 from a previous version and I don't know if you did. Maybe just try reinstalling 8.1 as a guest or a second install.

Re: Windows 8.1 / 2012 R2 Guest
I tried another fresh guest 8.1 install. Same thing, copying from shared folders with network adapter disabled doesn't work.
It's really weird.. it sees all the files, so how can it not copy them over?

Re: Windows 8.1 / 2012 R2 Guest
just curious, are you trying to drag and drop them because drag and drop doesn't work with a WIndows guest.vatoloco wrote:I tried another fresh guest 8.1 install. Same thing, copying from shared folders with network adapter disabled doesn't work.
