USB: Attach Garmin Forerunner

Post by DocB »

Hi,

I run vbox 1.52. on a SuSE 10.3 host, and got (atleast on this machine...) USB running as well. When I attach a Garmin Forerunner, the Linux host mentiones:

Code: Select all

Feb 23 16:11:09 southpole kernel: usb 4-2.4: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
Feb 23 16:11:09 southpole kernel: usb 4-2.4: new device found, idVendor=091e, idProduct=0003
Feb 23 16:11:09 southpole kernel: usb 4-2.4: new device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=0
Feb 23 16:11:09 southpole kernel: usb 4-2.4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Feb 23 16:11:09 southpole kernel: garmin_gps 4-2.4:1.0: Garmin GPS usb/tty converter detected
Feb 23 16:11:09 southpole kernel: usb 4-2.4: Garmin GPS usb/tty converter now attached to ttyUSB0
I can choose this USB device from the machine menu, but it does not appear in the windows XP guest. Or lets say it that way: In the device manager it shows up, but the installed software seems not to be able to connect to it. Any idea how to solve this?

Update 20080224: I tried the settings in http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=4622
as well, but it seems that ths GPS is visible, but cant connect somehow.

Thx!

There is a way around this, at least for me. Worked in gutsy and hardy, both VBox 1.56 and 1.60 . Previous version actually did not have this problem, I think...

What i do is:

1. Load Win XP
2. Plug in my Garmin (Set allowed in the USB Device settings dialog in Vbox).
3. Open device mananger in WinXP. Select disable Garmin....
4. Wait 1 sec. Enable Garmin.
5. Voilaa! Now it should work....

Let me know if this did the trick!
Virtualbox should fix this soon!
