--- I guess this question is better put under this topic.
I want to know how to add a guess drive to Windows as a guest (running on linux as host).
The new drive has no format so windows can't see it. Is there a way to give a filesystem (fat, ntfs) so that windows can detected the attached extra hd.

You don't mention which version of Windows you are running -- the solution can vary depending on the version.
WinXP & WinVista = Start - Programs - Administrative Tools - Computer Management.
Select the Disk Management Option -- you should be able to define or change a volume, including formatting it. The function is similar to Symantec's PartionMagic, except that this is free (included in the OS). Be careful to do it to the right disk, not your boot vdi!
Win95 & Win98 = open a DOS window ("MS-DOS Prompt") & then run "FDISK", followed by "FORMAT". Be careful to do it to the right disk, not your boot vdi!
Win 3.x (after exiting WIndows to DOS) = run "FDISK", followed by "FORMAT". Be careful to do it to the right disk, not your boot vdi!

I'm older, but am I wiser yet?
