Re: Windows XP restart problem
Did this XP VM ever work properly on the laptop?
If not, then the continual reset is most likely caused by hardware difference between the VMs on the two hosts. You need to make sure that the two VMs are identical, as much as possible (in particular, same IDE controller, same MAC address, same IO APIC settings, same config for number of CPUs etc).
However, you might still be left with a problem due to having different CPUs on the two hosts (the CPU is the only host hardware directly visible to a guest). To counter this I would have ensured, during installation, that the VM was set up to assume the least capable of CPUs. Hence I would have installed XP with the IO APIC option turned off, which also means only 1 CPU. Other advanced features such as VT-x and PAE I would also ensure were turned off. The idea is to require as little from the host as possible, ensuring that the VM is as portable as possible.
Since you've already installed XP, you might look into using the HALu tool to switch the VM back to a basic uniprocessor "ACPI PC" HAL (== Hardware Abstraction Layer).

Re: Windows XP restart problem
There's no harm in correcting that, but I don't see how it can be your problem. The extension pack mainly adds USB support and perhaps a couple of other things. If your VM needs USB and doesn't have it then I would expect you to get an error message, otherwise you should have no problem. At worst the guest would show the hardware as broken (an X in device manager). I would not expect a BSOD on startup.essam1974 wrote:but I remember now I install the Virtualbox extention pack on my desktop but did not install it in laptop can this make problem.
BSOD on startup of an XP VM is usually CPU related (Intelppm.sys), or wrong IO APIC setting, or wrong IDE/HDD controller. If the VM was previously working on the laptop that then would tend to rule out the first of those.

Re: Windows XP restart problem
Hello,
I have a Host Windows XP SP 3 and a Guest windows xp SP1 make with an old Virtual Box
I create a VM Win XP SP3 with a VirtualBox version 4.0.2 in other year
When I run a VM over VirtualBox 4.0.4 or 4.0.12 crashed the VM.
Where is a problem? I don't modify in the parameters of VM.
For determinnate the problem i load a Virtual Box 4.0.12 and import a VM Windows XP SP1. It run OK
I run windows update for patchs and sp1a. When run SP2 the Virtual machine crash and resset in a loop
I need confirming the problem and solutions
Zanks you
Jose M

Your problem sounds nothing like the OPs. Do not hijack someone else's thread. Start your own.
