Use of anything but a full retain version of Windows can lead to all kinds of issues, not limited to being illegal.

NOt entirely correct. Making a custom install cd with some 3rd party tools as nLite to strip out unnencessary components or to add necessary hardware drivers does not make it illegal. Sometimes it is the only way to install the OS (WinXP still expects to find a FLOPPY device attached to the PC to install SATA storage drivers in pre-setup, unlesss you include the SATA driver on the XP CD).

It does not make it illegal but it does put you in a situation where the supplier will be unlikely to give you support. You may need to reproduce the problem on a standard install to get any help.

Exactly. Unless we see the same problem with a stock install, we can't and won't help because the problem is not reproducable by us. For the record, I use nLite myself and never have had this problem.

Strangely, the problem is fixed (for me) after:

1. Install Guest Additions
2. Go to Start -> Programs -> Oracle VM VirtualBox Guest Additions -> Uninstall
3. Click "No" at the "Do you really want to uninstall Oracle VM VirtualBox Guest Additions 5.0.10?" prompt

I am using:
  • - VirtualBox v5.0.10 r104061
    - Guest: Microsoft Windows XP Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 : Service Pack 2)
    - Host: Windows 7 Ultimate Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1)
