G'day All,
After installing ArcGIS 10, I am having problems with the graphics. Whenever I load a map it does not display anything, however when I ask to start a new map, the old one becomes visible, (but inactive). Also, when the window is minimised, then maximised, the desktop is then visible where the map should be. This makes me think that for some reason there is a problem with the graphics memory?
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Sam

Re: ArcGIS graphics problem
I don't think it's a problem with the graphics memory, as it's taken from your RAM, not the video card memory.
What you're describing sounds like a 3D feature. The program uses DirectX to display the maps and since you don't have proper DX acceleration, it won't show the map. You only have OpenGL. When you open a new map, which allows you to see the previous one, means that the DX acceleration is disabled for that map and a static image is shown.
Install the Guest Additions with 3D enabled in Safe Mode inside the Guest and enable 3D acceleration in the VM settings. That should solve it.

Re: ArcGIS graphics problem
I already have those settings in place, (and reinstalled them just to be sure) but still no luck.

Re: ArcGIS graphics problem
Worked it out. Turns out you need to disable the 2d and 3d acceleration in the VM settings.

Re: ArcGIS graphics problem
I had the same problem with ArcMap. I found that I only needed to disable 3D acceleration, not 2D acceleration, to get the display to behave again. There is still some odd sluggishness in the UI at times, but that doesn't seem to be connected to the 2D or 3D acceleration settings.
