Shared Folders in windows 2000?

Post by Orishnu »

i ahve installed all updates for windows 2000 professional Sp4, and I still can't get it to recognize ANY of my usb devices. It doesn't recognize my iPod, my usb flash drive, or my Seagate FreeAgent 500Gb external hard drive. i thought maybe i could access the external hard drive (which is the most important for me to get working) by making it a shared folder, but i can't figure out how to access shared folders.

any help would be appreciated.

edit: if its of any importance I'm running vbox on a macbook

i did read user doc.

alright you want step by step? i can do that, ill even post screenies

1. when i found that USB wouldn't work, i tried to use shared folders. so i made my external hard drive into a shared folder. I went into settings, clicked on shared folders, then clicked on the add button. I chose the path, then gave it a name. (external)

2. I started up my machine and logged in (to my administrator account) i opened up command prompt and type in "net use x: \\vboxsvr\External" (without the quotes) and i get "network path not found"

thats about it. I also tried using run from the start menu and i tried using a different drive letter (e: its the first unused drive letter) but it doesnt seem to work
when using the run command from the start menu, command prompt opened for about 5 seconds and then quit, without changing anything that i can see
