Has anyone done a complete writeup on how to migrate a vmware server guest running windows 2003 (I image XP is the same) to Virtualbox? I have a vmware guest that I can't boot. I just have the vmdk file. I can access the vmdk file in vbox, but getting it working and booting is not nearly as easy.
I was able to get it working by running Windows repair, but it de-installed a bunch of stuff from the VM in the process and left me with a mostly vanilla install of Windows 2003, which isn't what I wanted. I'm assuming there might be an alternate "repair" that may work better or a better process to do this.
This is really my biggest problem with vbox. There are a bunch of other nice to have things to make it a vmware server replacement, but this is the biggest problem.
Since I can mount a vmdk file in vbox, I image migrating a linux is very easy. Windows, not so easy!
