Shared Folders or a alternative?

I am trying to get shared folders to work in a Windows XP virtual machine but it does not seem to be working in my favor, I go to look at the entire network and my shared folder isnt there.

any suggestions or alternatives?

I have followed all the info in the help documents

HOST SYSTEM: Ubuntu 7.10 (LINUX)
GUEST SYSTEM: Windows XP Professional

Haven't got shared folers to work either, but to import files to a fresh VM, using the $mkisofs command and then mounting the image in VB works in a pinch.
