Virtualbox unexpected crash

Post by ionucius »

Hi, i am using Virtualbox 1.5.0_OSE on Mandriva 2008.0 I installed Windows XP SP2 home edition and it was running just great for ....2 days. Now all of a sudden the XP [running] window closes when it wants and i would like to know what is going on. In Vbox.log i get the following message that i think it would be relevant:

00:00:03.698 Display::handleDisplayResize(): uScreenId = 0, pvVRAM=ae682000 w=640 h=480 bpp=8 cbLine=0x280
00:00:05.955 PIT: mode=2 count=0x10000 (65536) - 18.20 Hz (ch=0)
00:00:05.961 PIIX3 ATA: Ctl#0: RESET, DevSel=0 AIOIf=0 CmdIf0=0x00 (-1 usec ago) CmdIf1=0x00 (-1 usec ago)
00:00:05.962 PIIX3 ATA: Ctl#0: finished processing RESET
00:00:05.969 Display::handleDisplayResize(): uScreenId = 0, pvVRAM=00000000 w=720 h=400 bpp=0 cbLine=0x0
00:00:05.973 Guest Log: BIOS: ata0-0: PCHS=12483/16/63 translation=lba LCHS=783/255/63
00:00:05.976 PIIX3 ATA: Ctl#1: RESET, DevSel=0 AIOIf=0 CmdIf0=0x00 (-1 usec ago) CmdIf1=0x00 (-1 usec ago)
00:00:05.976 PIIX3 ATA: Ctl#1: finished processing RESET

Can anyone help me understand and fix the problem? Tks

I looked around the forum and i've seen that 1.5.2 has several bugs and it didn't seem tot me that it would be better than 1.5.0. But after all i need it to be more stable; is it?
How do i upgrade virtualbox without uninstalling 1.5.0?, because than i would lose all my setings

Not sure how the upgrade works on Mandriva I run Debian all that was required for me was letting the virtualbox package upgrade itself to the newer version from their repository then start the as I had shut it down when I seen the upgrade was going to happen it started fine so no settings loss. As to the stability like I said I have not seen a crash at all when I shut the virtual machine down earlier tonight it had been running for 12 days straight. With the 1.5.0 version if I got 3 or 4 hours of uptime on the virtual machine I was lucky.
