I did that also. Second mouse is plugged directly to virtual machine as a UBS device.

Read Manual for installing guest additions in safe mode.

No other way, no native VGA access.

Game name (developer, publisher): Heroes of Might And Magic IV Collection (All instaled), 3DO, UBISOFT
VBox version: 3.1.6 OSE
Linux version: Ubuntu 10.04 (host :D)
Windows version: Windows XP
VBox additions installed? Yes (3.1.6)
HowTo install/run/uninstall: Install as normal. I haven't uninstalled for now.
Workarounds/notes? When you start you see only the upper of the screen. How to change: Change to a more low resolution than the virtual desktop and play in windows mode. To see better the options, click in New Single Scenario -> Intro -> Intro (until a game start) and then you have the menu more accesible in the upper right cornner.

And this is how it's saw:

Soldat
Developer/Publisher: Transhumandesign
Virtualbox version: 3.2.12_OSE
GNU/Linux version: Aptosid AMD64
Windows version: Windows XP SP3
Virtualbox additions: installed
HowTo install/run/uninstall: as usual, mouspointer integration has to be switched of else it is not playable (mouse jumps around)
Workarounds/notes: game works well

Crayon Physics Deluxe
Developer/Publisher: Kloonigames
Virtualbox version: 3.2.12_OSE
GNU/Linux version: Aptosid AMD64
Windows version: Windows XP SP3
Virtualbox additions: installed
HowTo install/run/uninstall: as usual
Workarounds/notes: game works well, inside the main menu and the pause menu there is NO mouspointer visible. the menu is still usable but you move around your mouse blindly until one menu option shows its mouse over effect.

In the meantime I tried grim fandango (reported to work) but it does not start on my mashine. grim is using directX 6 and using XP's compatibility mode does not help.

So far in VB 4.0 scale mode made quite the diference. Here's my contribution to this nice thread :) (My system: win xp sp3 + GA installed)

Some full screen games now in this mode work flawlessly. So, having these in a window running is very much easier to manage more stuff in desktop, like browsing the internet or chating while a game is paused o in the middle of a turn game based..

So far i tried these games:

---- Caesar III -----

Works perfectly also without scale mode. Hint: some mouse controlled games should be disabled mouse integration because without it the control goes crazy. (Ctrl + i)

Image

---- Dungeon Keeper 2 ------

Works only on scale mode. Mouse integration OFF. I had been playing this for some time now :D

---- Alpha Centauri ------

Alas..... finally! Yes, this works too. No need to mess around with WINE on this... Use scale mode and game res 800x640 (low res). There was only one catch: When you choose a leader and start a game, the presentation voice starts to loop and crashes to desktop. To avoid this we should erase the voice files in the game's installation. You'll loose the voices, but you get to play the game at least, and all the other sounds continue working.

Image

----- C&C 95 -------

Works too. No pic but i have tried it. There's some unnoficial patches to make resolution and compatibility with newer OS to work.

----- Simcity 3000 ----

Scale mode ON.

Image

----- Theme Hospital ------

Look for open source Corsix project on this game and install it. Works perfectly too.

Image

------ Age of Empires 2 ------

Perfect.

Image

---- Sindycate Wars -----

Another classic. Yes this works too. Scale mode OFF. Search for an open source project about this one to have it work on win xp... no need to have dosbox.
