I have a problem with the login to a domain from the WIndows XP login screen at the beginning right after the start of Windows.
Let me explain one after the other what happened or I did:
First there is a PC using Windows XP. After the windows boot there comes the login screen (after CTRL-ALT-DEL) from which a user could login local or using a windows domain from a domain server. This works fine.
After some problems with the hardware it was decided to clone the two hard discs and use them in VirtualBox on a new PC. It was easy to create the .vdi images of the two discs without any problems.
The new PC is running slackware linux as the host system.
The two images from the XP install are working fine, a local login is possible without problems and the normal desktop is there and everything is fine - when logged in locally.
For the network "Host only" is used in VirtualBox and linux host and XP guest have both IP addresses in the same subnet which is also used by the domain server. The Internet is working fine from the XP guest (web, ssh,...) and the XP guest has also the same IP like the real XP PC before.
But if the login to the domain from the windows login screen is selected then it is impossible. Windows says that the domain controller couldn't be found or the user place.
But after logged in locally, going to windows networks and selecting the domain server a popup comes asking for username and password for the domain. After giving it all resources from the domain could be accessed - and the username/password is of course the one which also should be used in the login screen; but hasn't worked there
Does anyone know why the domain login is not possible when using the XP install in VirtualBox?
Cheers,
